So You Want Me to Review Something

A Typical Workspace for Le Professeur Gothique
Before you send me something to review -- either a product, a book or music -- please read this first!

While it's always nice to be asked to review something, the results may or may not be what you, dear reader, expected. You see, I'm a trained academic. Reviews and critical analysis are part of my daily work, and I WILL judge what you send me with the most critical of eye. Therefore, you might want to think twice about sending me anything if all you want is a good review

I am going to be brutally honest in pointing out the flaws, and hopefully merits, in a work; and I will be completely unbiased in my review. I will treat all books, products and music the way I would in an academic setting: in books I look specifically for a well-structured, well-written thesis, good citations, a strong argument, a successful unfolding of ideas, clear and well labeled images (if any) etc.; in products I look to see how well something works, how pleasurable the experience, how well-designed it is, etc. All of this will also apply to music, with the addition of complex critical analysis.

If you are sending me a non-fiction book, know that if I disagree with your thesis or argument I will counter argue. If you are sending me a book or music, please know that I will apply methods of critical analysis and aesthetic critique.

Thank you,
Le Professeur Gothique
