| Mind the lipstick-less face: it's 6:50 am and I'm running out the door to catch a train. |
I wasn't feeling my normal chipper self on Friday so I decided to wear something more comfortable and practical than super elegant. I wore my new pants, which are two sizes smaller than those I wore before Bat Fit. You can't really tell that they are a smaller size in the above photo because the pants, now a size 16 women's, are very baggy on me. Even the long sleeved cotton blouse with the smocked, button down front and my beloved corduroy purple blazer are loose on me! With all of the working out and portion downsizing I noticed that my frame has completely transformed. My arms, neck and chest are much smaller and more defined; my back and abs are getting defined; and my waist is shrinking. My legs, hips and butt are loosing inches and cellulite. And, most importantly women's sizes aren't fitting right anymore.
I spent the afternoon with my Mom and she assessed my clothing for me. She suggested that I am no longer in Women's sizes because of the way the clothing is drooping in certain areas. She urged me to start trying on Misses 18s to see if the fit is more aligned with my current proportions. MISSES! Sheeze, the last time I was able to shop in regular stores for Misses sizes was six years ago! I am going to wait until the semester is over before I actually start buying new clothes, but her suggestion makes a lot of sense to me.
I've also been complaining that I hit a weight loss plateau and the minute I said it, I lost another three pounds, making my total to date 18 pounds! My metabolism and body have been re-calibrating, causing me to crave certain types of foods. I have a hankering for sauteed fiddle heads and baked flounder, both with a squirt of lemon and a bit of butter. I've been having soup for breakfast and poached eggs for lunch! *shrug* Whatever works and whatever my body needs, I guess. And let's not forget seasonal cravings like fiddle heads and spinach! I'm dying for fresh, locally grown crunching greens. And I'm dying for some good ol' fashioned rye bread from the Green Market. Yep, my metabolism is back on track!
The Run Down:

It so good to hear about your weight loss. Sadly I weighed myself this morning and came to that annoying conclusion that Iv'e lost and gained again, so I'm back were I started. It was so easy to loose weight before, now it just so difficult. Perhaps I could blame the depression and lack of energy. I'm trying to exercise every other day though and started to lift weights. Tomorrow I will buy a ski kit, that is heavy training. Hope your SAD problems will be better soon. I know it's important to spend some time every day outside in daylight.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up! Remember, true weight loss is about re-calibrating your body and working with your metabolism. It's about a fit body and a fit mind. It's about eating good, whole and healthy foods. You can do it!!!
DeleteSometimes getting outside is not a possibility for me and that's unfortunate. I'm trying to spend time wandering about outside every few days. I know the garden will help a lot. :)
Good to know you broke your plateau. A bodybuilder friend of mine suggested to me that taller, sturdier people might hit that starvation point earlier than 1200 calories. She also reminded me that weight doesn't really mean much- muscle and fat, and all that bit. You probably didn't really plateau- you probably just cancelled out fat loss with muscle gain. Lucky ducky! >except it's not luck<
ReplyDeleteI've been perusing various bodybuilding websites. Not that I intend to go that direction, but those are people who make a business of knowing what sorts of foods do what sorts of things inside the body. It's terribly interesting, and they all throw recipes at each other like crazy. If one has a scientific bent at all, it makes for good reading.
Ed suggested the same thing to me -- that I'm gaining muscle. That's good enough for me. ;) I've been thinking a lot about re-calibration and nutrition: that our bodies, when given the right foods and right amount of exercise will reset themselves to where they truly should be. It's a very liberating way to think about nutrition and weight loss.
DeleteHugs. Sorry you had a rough week. Hope your weekend brought some relief. Congrats on breaking through the plateau. When I was doing Weight Watchers they told us to sometimes go on a week or two of just "holding" to let our bodies and our minds kind of "catch up" with the weight loss. 18 lbs is a BIG DEAL.
ReplyDeleteAw, (((HUGS))) right back at you! Yeah, it's been rough but I'm working through it. Thank you. Yeah, 18 pounds is really feeling good and quite different. I giggle every time I put something on and it slides down to my hips. HELLZ YEAH!
DeleteI agree, 18 lbs is AWESOME!! Well done - I have my third weigh in today, and I think I'm just over 4kg (8.8 lbs) lighter than when I started ;)
ReplyDeleteAWESOME FOR YOU TOO!!! HUZZAH! Thanks!
DeleteMaybe this will make you feel better about the season: this morning, we heard a little bird chirping by the bedroom window. Also, along the route to work, we noticed that the Canada geese are back in huge numbers. Spring is coming! :)
ReplyDelete:) I noticed the geese and I'm also noticing that the ducks and the squirrels are starting to display and fight for mates and nesting areas. WAHOO! Come on Spring!
DeleteYou are looking so good! Isn't it a nice feeling to "outshrink" your clothes?! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks darling! It sure does!!!
Deleteyou are awesome! great steps towards your goal and so visible!
ReplyDeletei actually decided to cut my workout into half (still continuing dancing every day though) because my ab muscles are exactly the way i want them to be, every bit more would cause problems in my waist training and the muscles are visible so i am happy and hope half workout will be enough to keep them this way.
hope the semester will be over soon because i want to see all the new things you will get! whee!
Aw, *blush* thanks sweetie! My advise for keeping your abs where you want them: low weight lots of reps. It will maintain the structure but not build the muscle any further.
DeleteI am SO excited about the semester being over. I'm even bathing suit shopping! HOLY SMOKES! YAY!
Ah, always listen to Mom's advice. She knows best! ;) I hope this will open up a whole new world of shopping fun for you. I can't wait to see you build a new wardrobe... But I hope you'll also be doing some alterations on existing pieces, because you have TOO MUCH super-amazing stuff to just start all from scratch. Like that blazer.
ReplyDeleteHang in there; spring is coming soon and your lovely garden will be cropping up before you know it!
She definitely does! Yes, it will. I think the building is going to be more of adding pieces a little a time and altering those that I absolutely adore. So, yes agreed -- too much good stuff to get rid of.
Delete:) Even saying "the garden" makes me smile. Thanks darling!
