Saturday Shopping

Le Professeur Gothique off to spend the afternoon shopping with Ed
Can you imagine that it was 60 degrees (F) here in NYC yesterday? In January? After last winter -- we had tons and tons of snow -- this is quite a treat for us. I have to admit, I am very happy about the weather and wish that it would stay like this all winter and spring. It really hasn't snowed yet and it's be hovering between 30 and 50 degrees most of the time. I'm normally a snowy, cold weather kind of gal ... but this winter I really need this gorgeous weather because I've been pretty "blah" and tired. The sun and warmth are rejuvenating me; and let's face it, I'm dreaming beautiful dreams of my garden. I'm itching to push my fingers into the cool, dark mud. sigh ... soon.

Instead of staying home yesterday afternoon, Ed and I headed out to Target and Woodbridge Mall. It's sale time, my dear readers, and that means SHOPPING! I bought stackable inserts for my dresser to organize my jewelry, an earring/jewelry tree to keep my dresser clean and neat, paperwhite bulbs for Imbolc, two blouses, a skirt, a really cute pair of shoes, and lip stain.

Since it was warm I got away with wearing my long black and grey sweater over a long-sleeved cotton blouse, a pair of jeans, and my light-weight, flowered Doc Martens. I absolutely love the fuzzy, fake fur detailing in the collar and the belted front of the sweater. The detailing gives the sweater a more polished and romantic look ... now if it only had pockets I would be set!

My makeup was kept simple -- winged liquid liner on the top lids, liquid liner brows, and a very light lip gloss in rose. I've tweezed my brows extremely thin so that I can draw them on without a problem. Again, I won't shave them off because I still need some sort of brow as a guideline and because I usually do a lighter brow when I teach.

I'm wearing one of the necklaces from Alchemy Gothic that Ed bought me for Yule. This is part of their new Art Deco inspired line. There are little skulls all along the fan shape of the necklace so I paired it with my skull drop earrings.

I found these utterly adorable crocheted flowers in Claire's in the Square One Mall in Saugus, MA. I love the way they compliment the knit in the sweater -- very winter chic. :)

The haul
Here are the blouses and skirt that I bought yesterday. The velvet blouse on the left side is a Jones New York that was originally priced at $95 US; I got it for $30. The other blouse was originally priced at $69 US; I got it for $18!!! The skirt was $38 US; I got it for $15! Yeah, it was a good day shopping!

Here are the shoes that I bought at DSW for $35 US, aren't they adorable? These, my friends, were a grab. They are black suede with black and grey plaid fabric, grey-gold pearls, chain, rhinestones, and a pale lavender bow. They are wide in the toes and super comfy! I bet they're going to look great with a flouncy skirt! WAHOO!

And big thanks to all of you who recommended Revlon's Just Bitten lip stains. I bought three different colors yesterday and love them! They stay on through food, drink and smooching, and it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all. Win-win for me.

  1. I love that sweater! Is that still in season? I'm on the look out for good sweaters while I am still in the U.S.
Great finds! I LOVE the Just Bitten lip stains--bought 'Beloved' and am using it all up fast,so will need to stock up before I head back home. Here they can be as little as $6 (and even cheaper with coupons!) but in Melbourne they were $18 each, so I waited to come here.

  3. I took advantage of some January sales over the weekend. My goodies were most home decor-related. Those are cute shoes! And I love the lettuce edging on the sweater.

  4. Hexotica: I believe Dress Barn is having a major sweater sale as I type this, so yes -- RUN! GO! The email I got from them indicated that all fall and winter is 40 to 60% off. :) WAHOO!

Jema: Thanks! :) Hugs right back at ya!

Bane: Lettuce edging! Finally a name for it! Thank you for telling me what this type of edging is called.

    Amy: Thanks!

  5. Love purple and black! Those hair thingies are really cute. I like hair accessories like that b/c with black hair it kinda makes you look like you have more hair. :) Unfortunately I haven't done a lot of shopping although I do have a Burlington Coat Factory gift card burning a hole in my pocket. I always find lots of dark clothes there.

  6. Lady Bethezda: Thanks! Pulling hair up like that and then topping with the hair accessories can also hide the worst hair days; and can cover the fact that one's hair needs a dye job. I'm at that stage right now, but I'm trying to hold off until next week. I want to have perfectly trimmed and dyed hair before I start teaching. Burlington Coat Factory? I'm going to have to take a look. Thanks for the hint.
