Let the Fun Begin!

Le Professeur Gothique heading to the library and school to get work done
Yesterday was a crazy, busy day! I had to go to the NYPL and my school's library to return books and to pick up a batch of new books. I stayed in school for a few hours working on The History of Illustration class that I'm teaching at Parsons this spring. In the late afternoon, I had an appointment with my tattoo artist to discuss my other sleeve. WAHOO! We set the first appointment for March 6th, so excited!

It was also one of those bizarre days when the morning wasn't very cold, however by noon it felt like it was in the 20s. Apparently I didn't get the memo because I opted to wear my new skirt from Torrid. This is the shortest skirt I've worn in a good number of years! I used to always wear short skirts, but then I gained the weight and felt very self-conscious. Believe it or not, it took a lot of will-power to actually walk out the door like this. I'm just not used to showing that much leg, but what the hell! It's a New Year and I'm starting to lose the weight. :) However, I really didn't "get" how cold it was yesterday until I was walking down 5th Avenue and the wind was whipping right up my skirt, freezing my ass.

I love the detailing on this skirt. It's actually two skirts in one -- there's an under layer and then the gorgeous purple top layer. The skirt is meant to be pouffy and not super tight. The roses that you see aren't a print, but rather are made from swirled material, giving the skirt texture and three-dimensionality. I paired it with a cotton, long-sleeved blouse that is ruffled and button down the front. And topped the whole outfit with my beloved black pinwale blazer.

Of course, I always wear my tall boots with short shirts. It gives the whole look a hard edge and speaks to my punk rock roots. I very rarely wear proper shoes or heeled boots with skirts this short. Ever. It's just not me. There's a toughness about Docs or combat boots with short skirts that I absolutely love. Kind of like Tank Girl ... you know, go ahead and whistle and I'll put a boot up your ass. hehehehe ... yeah, that's me.

Stockings and socks: Target

  1. Nice outfit! You defintitely fits in short skirts, and nylon stockings! The combo with short skirts and boots is a clever thing i haven't thought of before. I use to say no long shirts with long skirts as one of my rules but I think I will add your as well.

    1. Thanks darling :D I really think short skirts and combat boots or Docs look so cool on women. It's tough and hard edged, but in a fun way. Hmmm ... I wear long shirts all the time, ever since I was in high school. I've always liked that look.

  3. That skirt is uber cute! I love shorter skirts too, and it also takes me a little getting used to. I also love wearing big boots with skirts, they just go so well together

    1. Thanks! I used to wear short skirts all the time ... then something happened. I gained a little weight, lost my confidence and VOILA! no more short skirts. I have to remedy that. :) Agreed, big boots and skirts are awesome.

  4. Oooh, I like that skirt. It's hard to find a fuller skirt that is short. So many short skirts are skin tight. I may have to take a trip to Torrid.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. It's really a funny little skirt in person AND IT WAS ON SALE. BIG TIME. I think they were trying to go for an 80s bubble skirt kind of look. It doesn't poof enough (I've had plenty of bubble skirts *shutter*) so it fits a bit fuller. :D

      Not a problem, thanks!

  5. Leggings instead of tights. Good for an extra 10 degrees, and then you can crawl around on the ground without shocking passersby. Hooray for short skirts all damn year!

    1. Hehehehe ... FREE SHOW! ;) I'm not a fan of leggings; I can't tell you why but they make me crazy. Perhaps I saw too much of them in the 80s -- I was in high school from 86-90 -- or maybe I'm seeing too much of them now? I don't know.

HELLZ YEAH! Short skirts year round!

  6. That skirt is too cute to not wear in the winter! What a perfect color, and that dimensional fabric - swoon!! I love it with the boots and blazer. I rarely wear short skirts (especially loose, short skirts) because it's SO windy where I live. Even with fully-concealing undergarments, it's embarrassing when your skirt is floating around your waist... :/

Another sleeve, so soon? You are going all out. Can't wait to see the design!

    1. Thanks! hehehe ... I don't know. It dropped to around 20 degrees by the time I got home. brrrr! This skirt is more structured than it looks in the photo. It was super windy and it didn't move an inch. Well, you know what I say (do you? I don't think I ever said it yet)? If there's a chance that the skirt is going up your better be wearing some cute undies! Like the 40s cut with the ruffles on the tush! hehehehehe.

The sleeves were planned sort of together and will eventually connect over my shoulders across my back. It's a lot of work but we're almost there. :D
