Yesterday, I spent my entire day talking to my wonderful Mom on the phone and scanning chapters of books that I need to return to the library this Friday. This week I've organized my notes and bibliography for my dissertation, cleaned my desk, dusted the office, threw out a ton of paperwork, and organized the files on my laptop. The more organizing and cleaning I do in preparation for the new semester and for my dissertation research, the more excited and focused I feel. It's been extremely therapeutic to seal up file boxes and bring them down to the basement for storage. It's also very thrilling to finally begin writing and researching my dissertation! WAHOO!
Last night was our weekly RPG. While it wasn't freezing when I left, I knew that our host's house is normally quite chilly and that the temperature was going to drop in the evening. In response I went all out "cold weather Goth" -- a warm cotton sweater with a comfy cotton t-shirt underneath, a long velvet skirt, thick stockings and my beloved Docs with ribbon ties. I've had this sweater for a few years and it is in marvelous condition because I never wear sweaters without some sort of t-shirt or shell underneath. It keeps the sweater off your body, which prevents the necessity to wash or dry-clean it often. Also, if the sweater is wool or part wool the t-shirt will create a barrier between your skin and the itchy wool. For tighter sweaters I wear a very thin silk shell or silk "undershirt" that you can find in the big department stores. I love the look of velvet with a plain t-shirt or sweater like this one. The sweater instantly makes the velvet a bit more casual and provides a beautiful contrast to something that most people align with black tie or elegance.
Bat Fit Update: On Monday, January 16th, I will be posting a brand new Bat Fit Challenge! This one will probably be one of the most difficult challenges of the year. It is extremely open-ended and can apply to a number of facets in one's life: mental, emotional, and physical. It's something that you will have to think about, to which you will need to truly commit yourself. Are you ready?
And don't forget to keep up with those journals and keep dancing! If you enjoy this kind of exercise then by all means keep doing it. Perhaps this is a good time to add ten more minutes? Let's do a whole 30 minutes of Bat Fit dancing! WAHOO!
The Run Down:
Sweater: I can't even remember where I bought this! I know it's over 5 years old.
Skirt: Lane Bryant
Stockings: Target
Docs: ShoeMall.com

This looks real comfy! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the ribbon ties although they are hard to see.
Congrats on getting organized!
ReplyDeleteI always wear a wool thermal under my winter wear. I just wash the thermals; no need to have nice sweaters pill and fur kink up!
I keep on writing in my journal every day. It's good, because I think of what I did good and what went wrong (thinking about food and exercise).
ReplyDeleteI truly hope that the challenge isn't "stop drinking whiskey" because it's the only thing keeping me from contracting the plague from the children.
ReplyDeleteI hate itchy wool. Camis and t-shirts are a tremendous help.
ReplyDeleteSal: Thanks and yes, it is very comfy and warm. I think this might be my go to outfit for research at the NYPL archives, which tends to be FREEZING. brrrr! The ribbons make the boots. I promise the next time I wear them I'll take a better photo of the boots.
ReplyDeleteHexotica: Thanks! It feels great to be so organized right before the beginning of the semester. Yup, that's the whole reason behind wearing something under a sweater. :) As you know, it extends the life of the sweater.
Linnea-maria: WAHOO!!! Keep going!!! And remember, treat yourself with love and compassion. If this isn't fun and filled with caring, it's not going to work. You don't go wrong, you have "hick-ups," we all do.
Tante: hehehehe ... I hear you on that one! The semester starts on the 23rd and I'm already trying to build my immune system with Air Born! I'm bound to get something! *shudder*
Unlacing the Victorians: Yes indeed!
I love underlayers, and Febreze. :-D Hey, I used to have a skirt just like that. What ever happened to it?? Now I wish I still had it, because you just inspired me to try it with a t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteAh, Febreze is a gal's best friend! Agreed. :)
