Like many people, Ed had the day off on Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday. We spent the morning straightening up the apartment and the afternoon doing a little sale shopping. After all, I had a 20% off coupon for Dress Barn that was going to expire and I wanted to use it. I spent the majority of my weekend working and I was feeling a bit punchy. I needed out.
I'm wearing a brand new pair of black, boot cut jeans from Eddie Bauer that I've rolled up to show off my patent leather and bow-tied Docs. As you've read throughout this blog, I struggle with jeans. Lane Bryant and Coldwater Creek have both been amazingly disappointing. Their jeans fit my body bizarrely -- bunching and pinching in weird places -- and they always seem to misshapen after a few hours of wear. Eddie Bauer's jean, though expensive, have always fit me and keep their shape all day. And the black dye tends to be super dark and lasts a long, long time.
My blouse is the same long-sleeved blouse I wore in A Tailored Friday, except this time I'm wearing it with my Beauty Fiend "work jacket." All admit, skulls and bats are the two Gothy motifs that I tend to gravitate towards. I love skulls that are unusual and surprising, opting for details that make them strangely cute. Skulls with bows are ridiculously cute!
Of course it was too cold to go out with just a light jacket, so I wore my trusty black wool coat and leopard print scarf. Yes, the pin on my coat is a rhinestone encrusted skull set against lace and feathers. I originally bought it to wear in my hair, but I think it looks better on my coat.
I pulled just the top and sides of my hair back into a clip and teased the hell out of the resulting ponytail to give my hair some texture. Again, more skulls with bows. This time green skully hair pins! I dusted my eyes with a shimmery white eyeshadow concentrating on the inner corners and along the brow line. I swept a very light wine along my lid closest to my eyelashes and then darkened the outside of my eyes and along the crease with a nice, smokey dark grey. I finished the whole look by doing a wing with black liquid liner and then drawing my eyebrows with the same liner.
Saturday night I went to my Mom's to hang out and ended up polishing my nails as we chatted. I used an orange nail polish and once dry, I dotted each nail with a black nail pen. Of course they were finished with a clear topcoat.
Bat Fit Update: When I was at Dress Barn I tried on some tops, a gorgeous dress and a skirt. I ended up buying the dress in an 18 -- I've been a 20 for quite a while now. And I couldn't buy the skirt because I was between an 18 and 20. The 18 was a little too tight and I was swimming in the 20. Once again I am between sizes and it feels AWESOME! I ended up not getting the skirt; I'm going to hold off buying any more skirts or pants until my weight settles a bit. I did buy the dress because it's loosely cut and will serve me well throughout this process. I also bought a couple of tops, which were severely marked down to almost nothing. The coupon I had was for 20% of items that were already marked down 50% or more. Talk about a good deal!
This is the kind of BatFit breakfast I've been eating: a poached egg over some spinach on a whole grain "yoga" bread. I'm getting really good at poaching eggs! All the taste and none of the fatty grease from frying! WIN!
The Run Down:
Jeans: Eddie Bauer -- all of their jeans are on sale right now
Blouse: Lane Bryant
Jacket: Torrid a million years ago when they were actually carrying cool clothes.
Docs: ShoeMall.com
Hair Clips: Crash, Bang Boom in Philadelphia (say hi to Stefanie when you go! Tell her I sent you!)
Accessories: Skully earrings and pin all come from Claire's

Super cute outfit--you look a bit gothabilly!
ReplyDeleteWish I could find jeans with a black dye that lasts. No Eddie Bauer in Australia.
Poached eggs are great--even one egg keeps me full for way longer than a bowl of cereal or just toast.
Gothabilly -- that was the look I was going for! AWESOME! :D Aw, Eddie Bauer makes the best jeans. They last forever. :( Poached eggs are truly delightful -- you really get the clean taste of the egg and not butter. I also like them in a wrap with veggies and a bit of hot sauce. YUM!
DeletePS: Thanks!
DeleteThat is the cutest jacket evah! Looks like a Dickies jacket (which I love). Those nails are awesome. They look florescent on my screen. Reminds me of growing up in a country-ass TX town with big haired blondes and long fake orange nails. Yet, you have used that color to your advantage. Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It does look like a Dickies jacket, doesn't it? That's probably why I like it so much! HA! The orange is a a bit florescent. I wore the polish on my toes when we were camping last year. When I went walking in the stream barefooted the little fishes were all swarming my toes! I guess they thought it was a fishing lure! hehehehe ...
DeleteI am just DROOLING over that adorable skull jacket!! And yes, it was a sad day for all of us when Torrid stopped carrying the GOOD stuff and sold out to the mainstream... :-(
ReplyDeletehehehe ... Yeah, once they started to add that horrible line (was it JLo?) they slowly turned into yet another mall store. It's truly a shame because they were encouraging a lot of the "Goth/Punk Rock" brands to cut clothes in bigger sizes.
DeleteYou are the queen of Grown-Up Gothy Fun! I don't usually dig skulls, but skulls with cute pink bows are a different story altogether. As are skulls with flamboyant feathers. OMG. Too adorable!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the continuing BatFit progress! Your enthusiasm is contagious. And you are amazingly disciplined - I'm a healthy eater, but I could never bring myself to consume spinach for breakfast. Unless it's a late breakfast, like brunch-time, but first thing in the morning... No way! lol.
Aw, thanks darling! hmmm ... "Queen of Grown-Up Gothy Fun," I think I'm going to use that as my tagline when I revamp the look of the blog in a few months. Thanks!
DeleteI'm going to be honest with you, it really has nothing to do with discipline. I don't really like normal breakfast foods for breakfast. I would rather have a bowl of soup or something along those lines. I don't have a stringent idea of what is a breakfast food, lunch food, etc. I eat according to my mood and what I crave. I've never been a bad eater and I love my veggies morning, noon and night. :) Maybe it's because I keep a garden?
red polkadot nails O_O want!
ReplyDeleteand congrats on the smaller size after such a short time! that breakfast looks tasty, too.
:D They're actually really bright orange and black. Thanks! I'm still not fitting in the skirt that I want to feature for the next homework assignment, but we'll see. It's a little less than a month away so ... Breakfast was tasty indeed!
DeleteYou have the cutest smile ever! I agree, very Gothabilly and I love that! Ohhh and Crash, Boom, Bang is such a neat store!!!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! I do too -- maybe that's why I've been gravitating towards that style lately. I was just on a site (can't remember which one) that carried the "proper" retro undergarments for wiggle dresses, etc. and I almost died! I wanted everything ... well, maybe not the bullet bra ... but you know what I mean.
DeleteLOVE CBB! Stefanie is SO sweet and nice. Hey, if you're ever in the New Hope, PA area check out God Save the Qweens. Punk Rock Mishell is way awesome.
