| Dissertation goodness!!! |
I know that what I'm wearing isn't all that fashionable, but I wanted to show you, dear readers, that Goth gals have moments of comfort and hard work. I can't imagine dressing up just to sit at the dinner table to write and read! I'm constantly shifting and fidgeting as part of my process so I need something that will move with me. I'm wearing a brand new pair of yoga pants from Champion that I recently bought at Target for $15. They are a "relaxed fit" and are a combination of cotton and spandex. I'm a sucker for band t-shirts like this Bauhaus shirt we found at God Save the Qweens in New Hope, PA. And yes, I'm wearing sneakers ... real ones. I took the photo before heading to my Mom's to do laundry.

Part of my Bat Fit 2012 resolution is to eat better and to take care of my body. I decided that I am going to take one day a week to let my face breathe. That's right: NO MAKE UP for one, whole day a week. I find that the sensitive skin around my eyes really needs a break, as do my eyelashes, and overnight is not enough. I scrubbed my face with St. Ives Apricot scrub and slathered on some much needed moisturizer and under eye cream. After my shower, I used Garnier's leave in conditioner in my hair and then pulled it back into a loose ponytail. Yesterday was indeed an all natural day for me.
Lunch consisted of a small vegetable wrap with hummus and a cup of butternut squash soup, DELICIOUS! I'm glad that I ate so light because I felt a little stressed last night and ended up munching on half of a huge, homemade, dark chocolate peanut butter cup. Like I said before, this isn't a diet, but rather a life-style change. I am being more mindful of what I eat and why I feel the need to eat; and, in turn, I am enjoying my food more because I am not mindlessly munching. That peanut butter cup was VERY satisfying because I slowed down and enjoyed the taste of it.
The Run Down:
Yoga Pants: Champion, bought at Target for $15 over the weekend.
T-Shirt: God Save the Qweens, New Hope, PA
Sneakers: DSW

I love St. Ives Apricot scrub, that stuff is the bomb.Though sometimes it is a little rough on my overly sensitive skin.(Which is why I normally make my own skin care products).
ReplyDeleteAnd that veggie wrap looks freaking awesome.
Under the Stairs: I only use it once a week because it can be so harsh. But for dry skin in the winter it really does the job of sloshing off the dead skin.
ReplyDelete:) Thanks! I had another one for lunch today. I can't resist the temptation of hummus and crunchy veggies.
Good idea of you to let the skin breathe. I wear makeup less than bare faced. I feel that makeup dries the skin quite much. Your lunch looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHooray for dissertation green lights! :D What a delicious-looking veggie and hummus wrap! (I'm using too many exclamation points!)
ReplyDeleteYay for bravely showing us what you work in! It looks very comfy indeed.
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks delicious, especially the soup!
I've just discovered your blog, and I have to say it's immediately become one of my favourite reads! You truly are a big ispiration for me!I have a similar "standard outfit" for moments of academical hard work too, and I can totally relate - in some way I'm a "Gothic professor" too, and it's so refreshing to know there are others out there ^^'(more or less, actually I've just started a Pd.D program ^^). yay for Bat Fit! Greetings from Italy

Love the bauhaus t-shirt! I also like to chill out in band t-shirts! I usually do all the housework in casual gear like t-shirts and trackpants. So much easier and more comfortable and more relaxing! However, I still can't seem to leave the house without makeup on though! Not brave enough for that. :o)
ReplyDeletelinnea-maria: Thanks! I'm finding that the combination of cold weather and the make up is really drying out my skin so I've brought out the super moisturizer. And I'm drinking more water.
ReplyDeleteBane: WAHOO! And use those exclamation points -- this sort of thing definitely needs it! :)
Hexotica: Aw, thanks! The soup is V8's butternut squash. It's in a paper/wax container instead of a can and can be found in the soup aisle. Check it out while your here in the States. I really like their corn chowder. YUM!
MariaLuisa: Welcome to my blog! And thank you so much. Yes, there are others out there. I felt the same way as you when I started the PhD program -- I felt so alone and lost in a sea of very conservative looking, color wearing folks. Then I discovered someone in another program who was Goth and that many of the people in my program were super cool. :) One even took me aside when I thought I needed to "norm out" to get opportunities and she told me that I need to be me and not change for anything or anybody. She's about as normal and white-toast America as they get, but she knew what I needed to hear. :)
Congrats on starting this amazing journey! Please, email me if you need someone to talk to or if you get stuck. A PhD program can be challenging and lonely and very stressful, so know that I'm here for you.
stardustcastle: Hear! Hear! For band t-shirts and trackpants/yoga pants! I swear it's the only way anything gets done in academia. :) The only place I went to that evening was my Mom's and she's seen me without make up a million times. :) The other place I'll go sans make up is camping. Otherwise I at least wear some powder, eyeliner and mascara. ;)
I like your shirt :D
ReplyDeleteWith all those vegetables, I want to eat some greek salad now :p
And courage/cheer up (I don't know how to say it in English :p) for your dissertation :D Seeing you in a "motivated mode" make me motivated to study too ^^
Al: Thanks! I'm working and breathing and working ... and loving every minute of it. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can surely use your advice :-)!
ReplyDeleteYoga pants are perfect for a brain workout! I think they would be more comfy even than jeans, and they look great with a t-shirt. Love the shirt so, so much.
ReplyDeleteYour lunch looks delicious. I see hummus (I think)and calamata olives. Yum!!!
MariaLuisa: Us graduate students/PhD candidates need to stick together! The work is hard enough. :)
ReplyDeleteVK: I've been really drawn to yoga pants lately, especially for working at home. The fabrics can be nice and warm, and the stretch is great for reading on the couch or working at a desk.
Yes, hummus and calamata olives -- my two favorites!
