It's a fantastically tailored cranberry silk blouse. The sleeves poof at the shoulder and are gathered just above the wrist with a elongated cuff. It's sort of an Empire waist because you'll notice that the styling changes right under the bust. There's a black silk band that separates the two sections and then underneath the silk is tightly smocked in a band. Along the bottom hem the silk is flattened again into a ruffle. And under the ruffle you'll see black tulle peeking out, creating yet another ruffle. The entire blouse is trimmed with a black silk ribbon.
It's a very complicated blouse that desperately needs something plain worn with it. However, I don't think slacks were a good idea. The pants downplay the romantic side of the blouse, something that I really don't like. I'll admit that I really didn't want to wear a skirt yesterday. Hell, I really wanted to wear jeans and a comfy t-shirt, but wouldn't and couldn't. Next time this blouse comes out to play I'm going to wear it with a long flowing velvet skirt or a matte wool pencil skirt. I do think I'll stick with patent leather shoes -- I like the shine to shine parallel. Next time I'll break out my patent leather pumps or kitten heels.
What do you think?
The Run Down:
Blouse: Coldwater Creek from three years ago
Pants: Coldwater Creek
Shoes: DSW, Lifestrides
Socks: Target
Great blouse! I think it works w/the trousers bec. the blouse is so fancy, it needs something simple against it so the blouse really shines. The matte wool pencil skirt would also be great, a little dressier but still lets the blouse be the star it deserves!
ReplyDeleteI like the blouse a lot. The color looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteP.S.: My BatFit journal lies right next to me, waiting for the very first entry. :)
Wow, that one should be a BatFit challange, too!
ReplyDelete"Wear somethig, you bought a long time ago, and so far have not worn."
Because I like your blouse, and I think that if clothes would have thougths it would think:
"At last, she realised how cool I really am!I'll try to look as shiney as I can, and the Velvet Skirt and Pencil Skirt, will be my friends."
(That's why kids like me...)
I have some purple frilly corset, I've never dared to wear, it's just too princess-ish, but I guess I'll wear it for some christmas-celebration.
I have NO idea why you would neglect that beauty for three years! I'm so glad she's finally being introduced to the world. It's just gorgeous, with the shimmer and all the fun details!
ReplyDeleteI love it with the slacks because of the contrast between the soft/romantic and the crisp/professional. However, it would also look great with either of the other options you mentioned. Or black lace!
What a lovely blouse! I love the colour and the shine in the fabric, it fits you perfectly! I agree with goth mary poppins; it's something for the bat fit challenge. My wardrobe is brimfull with clothes I havent used in years :)
ReplyDeletethat is a beautiful shirt to die for drool want it....
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't imagine why you'd forget about it for three years, wou look gorgeous in it. The style is very flattering and the color fits you perfectly as well ^^
ReplyDeleteI agree with VictorianKitty about the slacks, but I'm looking forward to see the shirt with skirts too! ^^
Trystan: Thanks! Indeed, it needs a "quiet canvas" to pop.
ReplyDeleteSal: Thanks! I've always loved this color and that's probably why I bought it in the first place. WAHOO for BatFit!
Goth Mary Poppins: HAHAHAHA! Oh gosh, I hope my clothes don't have thoughts or inner voices. Some would be like, "DUDE! What the hell are you doing to me NOW!?!" hmmmm ... this indeed is a good challenge. Perhaps a homework assignment? hmmmm ....
VictorianKitty: I haven't a clue why I kept taking it out of summer storage, hanging it up in my closet and then ignoring it for three years. It's not like I didn't have tons of occasions to wear it. *shrug* Maybe it's because my weight has been fluctuating like crazy and I just didn't think the shine would look good on me? I don't know.
hmmmm ... black lace. I'm going to have to keep that in mind. Thanks!
linnea-maria: Thanks! Well then, I think we have a challenge to post soon!
DeeSpookyOne: Aw, thanks!
Lynoire: Me neither! I really want to see what it does to a nice skirt. Soon.
